Up next on How We Shot It, a fun DIY that you could do with your kids!  I went to the dollar store and bought these fern leaves, maybe 7 or 8 bunches of them.  I simply taped them to the wall (keeping in mind my daughters height) and stood her about 4 feet in front of them.  It took some trial and error, I first had them in an open wreath formation, then I just scattered them, but this vine look is what I ultimately ended up liking the best.

There is a large window behind me and a bit to my right.  I usually try not to photograph with a window directly behind me so that the lighting doesn't look flat (you'll notice slight shadows on the left side of her face creating dimension).  I made sure to use a shallow depth of field (F1.4 on the canon 50 1.4) so that the foliage wasn't too much in focus.

That's it!  So easy!  And cheap!  I've got a few other silk flowers, I'm excited to try some other stuff!  I'll keep you posted!  What do you think of this?  Let me know if you try it out!
