We've compiled this list of all of our favorite places for family photos on location in New Jersey! From parks, to beaches, to the city, we've got the best of everything listed right here. And if there is somewhere you love that we don't know about yet, let us know in the comments! We are always excited to photograph at new locations!
Disclaimer: If you are a photographer, mom-tog, hobbyist, whatever... please be respectful of these locations-and any location you choose to photograph. Keep them clean, don't walk in the flower beds, dunes or anywhere you're not supposed to, and be courteous of other guests, photographers, and by-standers. :)
Divine Park in Spring Lake is one of our favorites. There are wooden bridges crossing the lake, pink trees that bloom in the beginning of Spring, and lots of lush greenery that turns colors for fall. The beach is a few blocks away so this is a great place to get both! Allaire and Double Trouble are both historical state parks with old buildings and wooded trails. Allaire also has an old train that is pretty cool for Christmas, too!
Point Pleasant and Seaside offers lots for the kids to do! Play some games, eat cotton candy, ride rides, or just walk the boardwalk with lots of color in the background. Of course we could walk onto the beach as well, so that's a plus! Asbury Park Boardwalk has lots to offer also. From Convention Hall down to the old Casino, there is architecture, colorful murals and cool restaurants with string lights that always add a little something to the photos!
The Garden State is full of ...you guessed it-gardens! Deep Cut Gardens, Sayen House and Gardens, Cross Estate, Grounds for Sculpture... all of these places are great options with lots of color at the right time of year! Spring Lake makes the list again as one of our favorites for flowers as well..this town has such pretty landscaping - you can find color anywhere!
Where we're from at the Jersey Shore, there is no shortage of coastline. Seaside Park/Island Beach State Park is our absolute favorite beach, with light colored sand, lots of dunes and pretty sunsets. Barnegat Lighthouse in LBI is a great option to grab a photo with Old Barney, and Cape May and Sandy Hook have LOTS of variety to offer. Lastly, Belmar makes the list for it's tall pier.
Farm and Fields
Johnsons Locust Hall Farm has beautiful sunflower fields at the end of summer through the beginning of fall. Monmouth Battlefield has an old white farmhouse and a big open field with beautiful sunsets! Bayonet Farm has a red barn, open field, and a really pretty light blue house with a porch (trust us..haha). Of course in the winter there are Christmas Tree Farms like Lone Silo in New Egypt and Pattersons Greenhouse in Howell!
Hoboken has so many cute spots to find just by walking around (our favorite is the cobblestone streets)! Liberty State Park has a beautiful view of the city across the river, such a beautiful backdrop especially as the sun sets and the buildings sparkle. Asbury makes it on another list for its urban vibe and Princeton University has some pretty cool historical architecture.
Sometimes the best location is the one that's right in front of your nose... your home! If you're looking for lifestyle/natural/candid photos, you can never go wrong here. The kids are so comfortable at home and we tend to get some of our favorite photos at in-home sessions!
Your Wedding Venue
Did you know that some wedding venues will allow you to come back with your family for family photos?! Yes! Weddings of Disctinction NJ Venues are one of them. You can see a family session we photographed at Ashford Estate here.
