Oh my..so many good things to say about this wedding! A classy couple, blush dresses, mix-matched bouquets, an intimate church with beautiful window light and a boat ride to the venue overlooking the water. The bride got ready at her grandparents home in Mantoloking, NJ, just blocks away from their church, St. Simon by the Sea. We then took a short boat ride over to the venue, Mantoloking Yacht Club.
Since we photograph a lot at the shore, we were able to drive by the house where Julie was getting ready, and the church and venue as well. We don't typically scout locations beforehand since lighting and such can change and what I plan for usually isn't what's going to happen the day of, but man did we get excited! The odds were seriously in our favor because the day could not have gone more perfectly! They originally wanted to do a first look and once we took that out of the plan, it left us very little time for portraits. But I'll tell you what. I would rather shoot for 20 min in gorgeous natural light (aka golden hour) than have 2 hours in terrible light any day! It all worked out beautifully. We did the family formals and the bridal party immediately after ceremony, and nixed the bride and groom photos until after the first dance, which was timed so perfectly during sunset! Gahhhh!
A few days before the wedding Julie emailed us, letting us know they were very traditional and liked mostly photos of them looking at the camera. To be honest, we don't do a ton of that, we tend to favor the candids, but that's not to say that we can't or won't! I think we found the perfect mix of traditional, posed and NATURAL candids for some "fillers" to add to the story and I am pretty happy with the results!
